– MGRI develops mineral sector program in Uganda

SERGO ORDZHONIKIDZE RUSSIAN STATE UNIVERSITY FOR GEOLOGICAL PROSPECTING (MGRI) BECOMES THE LEADING UNIVERSITY IN RUSSIA TO DEVELOP MINERAL SECTOR PROGRAM IN UGANDA AND EAST AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

MAY, 22nd– JUNE, 04th 2019 during the visit of the intergovernmental Russian-Ugandan Commission (IGC) on economic, scientific and technical cooperation in Uganda, the Russian delegation met with the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni.

Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting (MGRI) was represented by the head of the Department of fundamental and applied research Rustam Mustaev.

It is particularly important to note that the meeting was held with the presence of the Minister of science, technology and innovation of Uganda – Eliod Tumvesigie, the head of the IPC – Andrey Rashin, as well as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation – Alexander Polyakov.

During the meeting, Rustam Mustaev presented the program on scientific, technological and innovative development across the entire spectrum of the exploration industry in Uganda to the President of the country.

The Ugandan President highly appreciated the success of the University both in carrying out fundamental & applied research works as well as in the educational process.

Scientific and educational achievements of the University are to be the basis of the program to develop mineral resources sector in Uganda.

The main issues of the program will be reported to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin during the summit “Russia — Africa” in October 2019 in Sochi.

Yoweri Museveni identified MGRI as the leader of this initiative among seven industry universities in Russia.

At the end of the meeting, the President of Uganda personally signed the scientific and educational initiative, which was a symbolic start for proximate cooperation.
